The
London Tavern is a traditional English pub situated in the beautiful
New Forest, 4 minutes from the main A31 West Country link road.
The Tavern is well known in the area for serving fine ales and
traditional home cooked food using fresh local produce…
and how’s this for a promise – “ If you eat
at the Tavern you will never go away hungry”.

First
opened by a Mr. John Roberts in the 1860’s The London
Tavern has traded from the same site ever since. The story of
it's first opening is as follows:
Apparently, Mr Roberts heard the story of an elderly local lady
who had been taken ill and a group of people had been dispatched
to the White Hart at Poulner to purchase some brandy for medicinal
purposes. The licensee there refused to oblige as it was late
at night and was not prepared to come downstairs for anyone,
living or dying.
Being
a very fair-minded man, Mr Roberts was outraged by this behaviour
and decided to open a bar in his own house; this he did, after
obtaining the necessary licence from the local police superintendent.
Because of his previous associations with London, Mr Roberts
remembered he had been nicknamed Johnnie Londoner and thus the
name of the pub came about. It was not, as had once been thought,
because it was situated near to the old road to London.
Don’t
miss out, come and enjoy the atmosphere of The London Tavern!
